Effect of Cilastatin on Cisplatin-Induced Nephrotoxicity in Patients Undergoing Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy

Cisplatin is one of the most widely used chemotherapeutic agents in oncology, although its nephrotoxicity limits application and dosage. We present results a clinical study on prophylaxis cisplatin-induced patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis undergoing cytoreduction hyperthermic intraperitoneal intraoperative chemotherapy (HIPEC-cisplatin). Prophylaxis was imipenem/cilastatin. Cilastatin selective inhibitor renal dehydropeptidase I proximal tubule cells that can reduce cisplatin. Unfortunately, cilastatin not currently marketed alone, only be administered combination imipenem.
